Listen to this ALPHA brainwave as you study the following lesson.

Background: Feng Shui is an ancient Asian environmental design practice which provides many areas of life including (but are not limited to): Fame, Relationship/Marriage, children/Projects/Descendants, Helpful People/Travel, Career/Life Path/self, Wisdom/Knowledge/Self Cultivation, Family,/Heritage/ Health/Community, and Wealth/Abundance/Power.

A friend of long-standing recently re-materialized and hired us to do some extensive consulting. At the end of the first session, she pulled out her checkbook and insisted on prepaying for a series of services. After writing the check, she proceeded to request that we look at the frequency of deposits in her checkbook ledger. The first three months of the year revealed deposits about every 4th line. The fourth and fifth months revealed deposits approximately EVERY LINE.

The obvious question, "What happened?"

She went on to explain that a Feng Shui expert had instructed her to:
1. Close the lids on all toilets in her home.
2. Close the drains on all sinks (kitchen, bath, etc.)
3. Close bathroom and cupboard doors.
4. Close any mind conversations that spoke of lack or limitation.

She was told that her money was going down the drain and immediately after installing these remedies, Presto…Deposits Abound. We went straight home and followed her instructions and are here to report that the results are already showing up. Try it and see what happens!

A Lucky Feng Shui Recipe for Prosperity

Feng shui is part of the three forces of nature known as Heaven luck (what you are born with, fate and every kind of influence that comes from the cosmos including weather and heavenly timing); Human luck (coming from choices you make using your free will, human endeavors, compassion, charity, etc.) and Earth luck (where and how you place yourself in space; your environment).

Feng shui is only one-third of your overall luck, but coupled with your Human Luck, that two-thirds can minimize the effects of any unfortunate destiny that would play out in your life. There are thousands of ancient Chinese texts, verses of poetry and many different kinds of feng shui that teach us how to live and prosper in harmony with nature. One such poem from the Land Formations School of feng shui mentions the very elements that make up the term "feng shui," literally translated as "wind water," and gives us a recipe for ideal living conditions:
The winds are mild.
The sun is bright.
The water is clear.
The trees are lush.

While this advice would serve us well in choosing land to build our dream home, most of us don't live in natural country surroundings. Modern life has us located in downtown hi-rises, midtown patio homes, apartments and suburbs. Let's see how we can put this recipe to practice wherever we live.

The winds are mild. First, get some fresh air! A big part of the practice of feng shui is to encourage vital life force energy, called chi, to circulate slowly and freely throughout a home. Good quality auspicious chi, called sheng chi, meaning "cosmic breath," brings good luck and fortunate blessings of all kinds. On the other hand, harmful inauspicious chi is called sha chi. Excessively aggressive energy (or poison arrows) coming from sharp edges, pointed objects or head-on narrow channels of chi flow from roads or hallways brings "killing breath" and misfortune in the form of illness, loss of wealth, lack of opportunity, accidents and arguments. Here's how to encourage sheng chi and dissipate sha chi.

Chi rides with the wind, enters your home through the doors and windows and brings opportunity, growth, money, ideas, people, knowledge, health and happiness. You can't see chi, or the wind, but when it is blocked its benefits are lacking in your life. You have to invite the chi in and the best place to start is at the front door.

All doors represent opportunity, but the main door of your house especially represents opportunity concerned with livelihood, working for money, your vocation and life path. If you have to dodge obstacles on your way to the front door, and struggle to open it, you probably experience having to work very hard for everything in your life.

Take a look outside the main door of your home. What is the quality of the life force that is gathering there? Is it spacious, bright, fresh and clean with evidence of new growth or cluttered, dark, and dirty with broken or useless objects or dying plants and no evidence of recent human activity? The quality of chi that gathers in front of your home determines the quality of the chi that enters it. The action of swinging the door open into the interior and walking in brings this chi into your home.

Increase life-giving sheng chi before it enters. Remove obstacles such as broken steps, overgrown bushes, overhanging tree limbs, dead plants, spider webs (you can relocate them!) debris, etc. Remedy a stuck door, fix a squeaky hinge and replace locks that are hard to open. Freshen or replace peeling paint, broken windows and worn-out door mats. Sweep the porch. Do the same with the back door. Wouldn't it be nice to have opportunity knocking at both doors?

Case study: I once arrived at a client's home to find the porch light dangling out of its socket, overgrown bushes and trees hiding the front door and a house number that was not evident from the street. I had a hard time finding the place. The most pressing problem the household was facing was that the only breadwinner for the family had been laid off from his job and was having trouble finding another one after many months of searching. Within two weeks of making the repairs and adjustments to the entrance, he had landed a much better job with a huge increase in pay, so much so, that they called me a few months later to design their new home!

The sun is bright. Sunlight and good quality lighting encourages precious yang energy. Clean the windows and open the curtains to let life-giving yang energy stream in, especially in active rooms where people gather, such as living rooms, family rooms, dining rooms and home offices. Replace burned out light bulbs, inside and outside, with the highest stated wattage on the light fixture. Add more light to dark corners and cramped spaces. Balance is the key, however; too much yang is not good. Glaring afternoon sun in a room can make you feel wilted and ready to head for a darker bedroom, whereas rainbows dancing across the room from faceted crystals hanging in sunny windows are tremendously balancing for both the room and the people who use it.

The water is clear. In feng shui, water flow equals cash flow, so all water in the house should be sparkling clear and flowing freely. Fish tanks, decorative water fountains, swimming pools and vases with fresh flowers must be cleaned frequently enough to always have fresh water. Faucets, toilets and drains must work properly to insure consistent cash flow. Dripping faucets and toilets that run continuously leak out precious chi and are detrimental to finances. When you hear yourself say any version of, "I don't know where my money goes," or "I make a lot of money, but it seems we never have enough," head straight for the kitchen and bathrooms to check the plumbing!

Case study: Mandy was told by her boss that she was at the top of her pay scale and would not receive a raise in pay this year. Even though she knew this was not correct, her boss insisted that was the case. She went home that day to find her kitchen sink stopped up. Mandy knew enough about feng shui to know that she should remedy the situation immediately; the plumber came the next day. A few days later, her boss apologized for his mistake. She had been right. She should have gotten the pay raise, but by then they had already given out all of the funds in the budget for others' salaries and she would have to wait until the next year to receive her raise. After Mandy told me the story I said, "When plumbing gets stopped up, you have to fix it right away." And she said, "Don't let it get stopped up in the first place!" She was right.

The trees are lush. Lush, yes; overgrown, no. Older homes sometimes are choked by overgrown landscaping, hiding windows and doors, blocking passages and limiting the in-flow of precious air and light. Bushes and trees that have reached their maximum growth have old or stagnant energy and really do not give off as much life force as fresh plants, so incorporate new plantings into old flower beds if you can. The same applies for potted plants. Tree or wood chi contributes to our health, so it is vitally important that dying, dead or sickly plants, which are extremely yin, are discarded and replaced with healthier ones, especially if someone in your home is ill, weak or elderly. That is why we bring fresh cut flowers to sick people; there's a lot of yang life force in blossoms. Don't use plants or flowers in bedrooms, which are considered more yin rooms for resting. Too much yang in there will keep you awake. If you don't have a green thumb, it's better to use real-looking silk plants inside the home, rather than live ones that always look pale and weak.

Let's review the ingredients for feng shui success:
The winds are mild.
The sun is bright.
The water is clear.
The trees are lush.

These cures are simple, inexpensive and basic, but should be done before any activation of specific advanced formulas such as Eight Mansions or Flying Stars. Paying attention to just these four things will greatly increase your feng shui, or earth luck. Good feng shui does not insure there won't be any difficult times, but it will help you recover quickly and even surpass your expectations.
